In each aspects of our lives, may it be with the way we eat, exercise, work or think – There are so many aspects that made effects on our lifestyle today. But I guess one of the most important lifestyles we should take care and give more importance for is our health. According to Charles Patrick Davis of medicinenet.com, healthy living to most people means both physical and mental health are in balance or functioning well together in a person. In many instances, physical and mental health are closely linked, so that a change (good or bad) in one directly affects the other. Consequently, some of the tips will include suggestions for emotional and mental healthy living.
No matter what we do, our body will always be our temple. Which means we need to take care of it 101%. Growing up, I realized that having a healthy lifestyle doesn’t fully depend on having a healthy body, but also it should correlate to having a sound mind. I listed down below 10 ways to have a healthy lifestyle – these points are very basic ways but are very necessary for our being. Sometime we may know all of these things already, but I guess we just need to be reminded.
- Choose WATER as a drink more than anything
Most people don’t drink enough water everyday. But some may not know that for our bodies to be able to function, drinking water is very essential. Over 60% of our body is made up of water – that’s why water is the best way to satisfy your thirst – and it doesn’t come with the added sugar found in fruit juices, soft drinks and other sweetened drinks.
2. Be ACTIVE each day
Physical activity helps us spend the energy, and makes us feel good. It doesn’t matter if your overweight, underweight or just on the right weight. Being active is important for all – it helps us burn off extra calories, it is also good for the heart and circulatory system, it sustains or increases our muscle mass, it helps us concentrate, and it improves our overall health well-being.
3. Never skip vegetables and fruits every single day
It is a common knowledge that fruit and vegetables are among the most important foods we need to provide our bodies vitamins, minerals and fiber. Eating fruit and vegetables every day helps boost our vitality and can reduce the risk of many chronic diseases.
4. Exercise daily
Exercise is a major contributor to a healthy lifestyle. Research has shown that exercising daily conveys incredible benefits to our health, including a rise in lifespan, lowering of danger of diseases, higher bone density, and weight loss.
5. Relax and take a break
Everybody deserves a break. Being so full of work and every stress happening around you, your health will surely be affected. That’s why once in a while you should breathe and take a break. Make a point to go out once in a week – relax and enjoy a change of environment. Trust me, it will be great for your body and soul.
6. Get a sound sleep
Did you know that when you don’t rest well, you compensate by eating more? And usually it will be junk foods. Make sure to get enough of sleep daily. You’ll need it not only when you’re tired – but of course as a human being it is our nature to sleep. Also, lack of sleep causes premature aging and I’m sure you don’t want that.
7. Learn to say NO
May it be with friends, food, work, or what not – learn to say no. Say no when you know it’s excessive already. Taking care of your health requires a proper attitude towards your discipline. Too much food will make you gain weight – or worse can make you obese. Too much stress will make you weak. Too much junk food will affect your body. All of these and more can be prevented, and it will start on you.
8. Prepare your own meal
Stay away from preservatives and fast foods. When you prepare your meals, you control what goes into them rather than choosing between sub-standard options in a restaurant. Get quality kitchen equipment — it will be your best investment ever.
9. Keep good company
You can do all these right things — but if you have personal relationships with people who have unhealthy habits, it will probably be a hard battle. The healthiest people are those who have relationships with other healthy people. Get your family or friends involved with you when you walk or plan healthier meals. Making healthy changes with a loved one can bring you closer together as well as motivate you.
10. Be positive and always be grateful
Everything starts in the mind and soul. If you want to be healthy, feed your soul too. If you are positive enough with whatever life brings you, it will be a lot easier to do all these things. Always be grateful – there is no more content feeling in the world than being grateful and having a heart filled with gratitude. I assure you, all else will just follow. When you are positive and grateful, you’ll learn to appreciate your life more – that leads to living a healthy lifestyle.
Good health is not just about eating healthy and having daily dose of exercise sessions – but it’s also about having a bright and positive attitude, a right self-image, and good vision for yourself.
