Are Essential Oils really Essential?
Essential Oils are really ‘essential’ for some people nowadays. It has become a trend for being an alternative to medicine. They have actually been used for thousands of years in various cultures for medicinal and health purposes.
The elements in essential oils comes from extracting the different parts of plants. His includes flowers, leaves, roots, resin, bark and peels. Now, the main question of many is how is an essential oil created? Essential oils are created through the process of distillation – which separates the oil and water-based compounds of a plant by steaming. They are very concentrated oils that have a strong aroma. In fact, occasionally they are called volatile aromatic oils because of their high concentration of the aromatic compounds. They are also simply called aromatherapy oils.
Recently, I’ve became so interested with essential oils as I read different articles regarding its amazing effect in one’s health and wellness. Hence, I thought of what aspect in my wellness could an essential oil could possibly be applied on – it is my dysmenorrhea. Every month, I am struggling with this menstrual cramp which are caused by uterine contractions during the start of my period. I can’t seem to find a way to reduce the pain I’m feeling and so I thought of maybe an essential oil could help me with this. I came across with this product from the brand Organic Blendz – it is their variant called Clary Sage Essential Oil Roll On. According to its description it is “Known as the “Woman’s Oil”, clary sage essential oil soothes stressed nerves and emotions.” I ordered it online and finally gave it a try when I had my menstrual cramps last weekend. As usual, it hurt so bad. And so I applied it as directed.
My verdict? It didn’t do anything! I applied it 4-5 times like every after 30 minutes as I want to give it a chance. Still, it didn’t do anything to ease the pain and it my dysmenorrhea even lasted longer than what I usually experience. I don’t know if this product has anything to do with it, but I’m just so disappointed that I didn’t do anything to ease even just a bit of the pain. And so, I guess this variant doesn’t perform as it claims. Plus, the smell kinda bothers me.
Later that day, before I went home (bearing the same pain I was feeling), my aunt gave me an essential oil customized specially for my menstrual cramps. I immediately applied it.
