If you are familiar with the cartoon character Popeye, you will know that spinach has been famous for its ability to make you “strong as iron.” However, this leafy green won’t cause your biceps to inflate like balloons (as it shows on its TV Series). It is compressed in vitamins and minerals, low in calories and useful in cooking.
Spinach has been used by various cultures throughout history, notably in Mediterranean, Middle-Eastern, and South-East-Asian cuisines. It can be incorporated quite easily into any diet, as it is cheap and easy to prepare.
Scientifically known as Spinacia oleracea, spinach belongs to the amaranth family and is related to beets and quinoa.
