The Danger of Junk Foods
Admit it or not, people tend to choose junk foods over healthy foods at times. Why? People would probably answer “Why not?”. Although we know healthy food is good for our body but still, we choose to pick junk food if given a choice. Later on, as I realize, life today is not like how it was ahead. A long time ago, people ate foods that are really safe for their wellness. People also took in a bunch of time to prepare their own nutrients. Nowadays, most of people in the world are extremely busy. Thus, it’s no surprise, that people don’t have time to cook at home. Hence, one of the reasons why they settle for junk foods.
Of course, we all know that junk food is high in calories and not in nutrients. But are we aware of what could these kinds of foods give to our bodies? Yes, maybe now we’re enjoying all those sweetness and saltiness of those extremely delicious foods, but would we get surprised if one day we will have the following effects in our body?
WORSENS APPETITE AND DIGESTION
Consumption of too much junk food leaves the brain in a dilemma. Excessive sugar intake can cause blood sugar level to fluctuate and makes the brain demand more food, which eventually leads to overeating. It makes it difficult for the body to digest excessive junk food.
Sweets increases your chances of developing cavities. Eating junk food with a high sugar content, such as soda, candies, etc, coats your mouth, gums, and teeth with sugar. This sugar-coating attacks enamel and leads to tooth decay and cavities.
CAUSES MEMORY PROBLEMS
A study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition in 2011 showed that healthy people who ate junk food for only 5 days performed poorly on cognitive tests that measured attention, speed, and mood. It concluded that eating junk food for just five days regularly can deteriorate your memory.
Filling your diet with junk food may lead to weight gain. Junk foods are easy to overeat quickly. Because they’re high in calories and contain added fats and sugars, they may cause you to pack on the pounds.
LEADS TO OVEREATING
Consuming junk food also leads to overeating. Most junk foods are low in satiation value, meaning that they do not fill you up. As a result, you or your family may eat much more than one serving of junk food at one sitting, and you may eat several times more calories, grams of carbohydrates and grams of fat than you would if you were enjoying a healthy snack or meal.
Everyone loves greasy foods, but are they good for you? What we eat affects our growth, health, behavior and mind. There are many reasons why you should eat healthier foods before work and school. According to Psychology Today, organic high-fiber foods release energy slowly, while high-sugar foods only give you a short burst of energy. Following a healthy diet isn’t the only thing that matters — you also need to make healthy lifestyle changes to minimize your disease risk. Exercise regularly, stop smoking and drink only in moderation, if at all.
